Corylus colurna Hedge NOTE: Sensitive to Dutch elmTurkish hazel is the largest species of hazel. Its crown has an attractive, pyramidal shape with soft, hairy, rich green leaves. The bark is pale grey buff, with a thick, corky texture. Produces edible hazelnuts in curious, deeply fringed husks in autumn. Its pendant yellow catkins produced in late winter to early spring are a classic harbinger of spring. Very tolerant of difficult urban growing conditions. Hardy. Deciduous.
