Mabel Frances Layng, The Tea Room autumn the special alchemy of paintingBorn in Macclesfield in 1881, Layng studied at the London School of Art between 1906 08. By Layngs early twenties she had started painting her urban observations, mostly of women at their daily doings such as at a tea room table, in shops, sewing alone, or sitting on the bus.
