Ripens in October. First mentioned by Evelyn in his 1664 Pomona along with Redstreak as being held in the highest esteem. Evelyn suggests it was originally a Gloucestershire apple that spread to Herefordshire. Hogg records that by 1727 it eclipsed Redstreak as the most highly esteemed with the cider
