A small handful of cards will be reprinted and lose value each year, but most of them are somewhat protected by scarcity (the cards reprinted at mythic in Modern Masters didnt lose any value, nor do judge foils) or demand (any tournament staple reprinted in a Standard set is suddenly of interest to a whole new group of players)

If players had to be constantly checking discard piles to have all relevant information about the game, it would slow down gameplay
