It gives a tapped out player the ability to win counter wars, to redirect an ill-timed card-drawing spell, and generally plays havoc with the targets on the board

Cards like Opposition Agent, Deep Gnome Terramancer, and Rhystic Study work just fine while being detained, giving you time to access more expensive spells that Lavinias influence cannot reach

Trying to misdirect opponents or persuade them to go in a different direction is useless if they have assessed that you are their biggest threat
