I didn't know exactly what the card was going to do but I knew I wanted a split card that was made up of split cards

I dont think that necessarily dooms Fact or Fiction Jace requires spending mana on your own turn, and so Fact or Fiction may be a more natural pairing alongside Cryptic Command but it does highlight just how high the bar is
