Other than the potential for a blowout should the target creature be removed with your aura still on the stack, but thats no different from the sacrifice cost on Natural Order and Pattern doesnt even force you to work with green creatures
The expensive final ability does not trigger the second effect, but you'd rather have it as a mana sink than not have it at all
(They were also just worse than Gearhulk, so not a perfect comparison, but seven mana is a lot!) In a control deck, the hope is that when you slam Hullbreaker, you may have a spell or two left in hand, and your opponent should be mostly out of resources
